Since 1967, when Albania proudly declared itself atheist, it had been known as the “most closed country in the world” to the gospel. An evangelistic campaign was held at the national stadium in the capital, Tirana, for the first time in history. It was there that Beni met Jesus. No active evangelical churches had existed anywhere in the country, but miraculously within a few years new churches were planted in most towns and cities in Albania.
Pray with us for these African countries. Muslims represent 41.3% of the population in Africa, growing at a rate of 2.5% per year (mainly as a result of having large families). Islam first spread from the Middle East to North Africa and then eventually towards the south.
In Egypt, most Gypsies call themselves Sunni Muslims, but in reality they often have very little religion. Their strong beliefs in the supernatural and miracles are opening doors for the gospel. Gypsies often use several names to hide their true identity, making them somewhat mysterious. "Ashoor" can be found playing his flute and accompanying dancers during festivals and parties. On another occasion he is "Abu Sereea", serving coffee in different festivals from a mobile coffee shop in the Nile Delta.
